Freshly returned from Senegal, MonaMohau was invited to teach at Herräng Dance Camp. The very same dance camp she always attented to as a child.

MonaMohau's transformative journey to Senegal has profoundly shaped her innovative

dance concept, "Roots & Rhythms," which she premiered at the 2025 Herräng Dance Camp.

This immersive experience in Senegal allowed her to connect deeply with African movement traditions, enriching her understanding of rhythm, groundedness, and personal expression. Drawing inspiration from the different African dance cultures she has been studying, MonaMohau developed "Roots & Rhythms" to explore the energy, musicality, and body language inherent in African and African descendant traditions.

At Herräng Dance Camp, "Roots & Rhythms" was introduced as a one-day intensive workshop on Saturday, July 19, 2025. The session invited participants to delve into African movement values through rhythm exercises, guided freestyle, and choreography. Emphasizing cultural appreciation and joyful exploration, the workshop was open to all levels and backgrounds, fostering a space for personal connection and community through movement.

The integration of "Roots & Rhythms" into Herräng's diverse curriculum highlighted the camp's commitment to offering a rich tapestry of dance experiences. The workshop's focus on African movement traditions complemented other offerings like Lindy Hop, Tap, and Solo Jazz, providing dancers with a holistic approach to rhythm and expression. This inclusion underscores the global nature of Herräng Dance Camp, where cultural exchange and the celebration of diverse dance forms are central to the community's ethos .

Through "Roots & Rhythms," MonaMohau is encouraging dancers to explore their roots and express their rhythms. Her work continues to inspire and connect individuals across cultures, fostering a deeper appreciation for the rich tapestry of global dance traditions.
